It is not important for EEGLAB to know the reference unless you want to 
re-reference the data (at this point the graphic interface will ask you 
what type of reference you are currently using). We will change that in 
a future revision of EEGLAB and you will be able to specify the 
reference in any dataset (without having to re-reference the data), 
since it is important to know what the reference is at all time (for 
instance if you send some datasets to someone and they do not know what 
reference you have been using).
