[Eeglablist] importing event information

Hi!I am working with cnt files and I am having difficulty in importing event
info.
Here is what I have done:I have loaded the data file along with trigger channel
with sload command and then imported it to eeglab-but when I am trying to
trigger the data by using 'import event info'from data channel I am getting a
huge no.
The no of channels is 59 excluding trigger channel.Frames/epoch=181200 and event
extracted are 28069!
one of the parameters in 'extract event from channel(s)-pop-chanevent()'is
transition length which I have set to 3-arbitrarily,whereas the default setting
is 1 for perfect edges .How one can set the value of this parameter and why?
one more thing is can someone tell me the difference between event and trigger?
I new in this field and  will appreciate any help.
