The Department of Cognitive Studies at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris
is soliciting applications for a one year postdoctoral position in their
research program on analysis methods for brain imaging in infants using Near
Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS). NIRS is a novel non-invasive fast-growing
imaging technique which enables to reconstruct brain activation in
developping children. The technique is quite new, and the number of tools
available for data analysis is still scarce.

The research project of the applicant will consist in adapting for NIRS
existing resources used in fMRI and high density EEG,and/or developing new
ones specific to this technique in one or several of the following areas:
 - artifact detection and signal denoising,
 - 3D image registration and reconstruction
 - time series analysis using GLM models, functional connectivity analyses,
etc.
The candidate will have access to a large database of already collected data
and be able to run it's own study is needed; he will be expected to publish
the developped methods in international journals. A strong background in
data analysis from imaging techniques (fMRI, EEG or MEG), as well as skills
in computer programming (R, Matlab, python..) is recommended, as well as a
good command of English. Applicants should have completed a PHD, or obtained
a diploma in Engineering (grande école d'ingénieur).

The successful candidate will benefit from a very dynamic environment within
an interdisciplinary research department right in the
middle of Paris. More information about the department:
http://dec.risc.cnrs.fr/ Questions about the project can be directed to the
project director Emmanuel Dupoux emmanuel.dupoux at gmail.com (

Salary and benefits are set by CNRS guidelines for post-docs.

Applicants should apply electronically, sending a CV, several reprints or
preprints, and a statement of research interests to Emmanuel Dupoux,
emmanuel.dupoux at gmail.com. The statement should describe the candidate's
goals for research and training during a postdoctoral position, including
directions in which the candidate would like to expand his/her expertise,
consistent with the mission of the training program. Applicants should also
provide names of three recommenders and arrange for letters of
recommendation to be sent separately to the same address. For fullest
consideration, all materials should be received by Jan 15, 2011, however we
will consider applications until the position is filled. The appointment
date is flexible but must be before Sept 30, 2011.
