Balaji<br>

the best place to start is to read this review article, it covers
most of your questions:<br>
<p class="details"><a
href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12790346"
ref="ordinalpos=4&ncbi_uid=12790346&link_uid=12790346&linksrc=docsum_title">Human
auditory steady-state responses.</a> Picton TW, John MS,
Dimitrijevic A, Purcell D.<span class="jrnl" title="International
journal of audiology"> Int J Audiol</span>. 2003
Jun;42(4):177-219. <br>
</p>
<p class="details">the choice of stimuli really depends on what your
research question is ... brainstem vs cortical .... modulated
noise will give you the biggest response (but obviously not
frequency specific)<br>
</p>
<p class="details">ER3s and ER2s are good, as is through loud
speakers<br>
</p>
cheers<br>
