Hi guys. Sorry to reopen - I am seeing this error again in v. 13.4.4b, 13.4.6b and also 14.1.2b. Specifically pop_editset - when it does the check at line 443 or so:

  res = evalin('base', ['exist(''' varname ''') == 1']);

..it fails. It can't find the data variable in the global workspace. It does seem to think that this variable is however a "directory" as the output of exists(varname) is 7 not 1. My error stack is:

Error using pop_editset (line 447)
pop_editset(): cannot find specified variable.

Error in pop_importdata (line 286)
    EEGOUT = pop_editset(EEGOUT, varargin{:});

Error in step1_loadPreproc (line 111)
       EEG = pop_importdata('dataformat','array','nbchan',0,'data','data','srate',256,'pnts',0,'xmin',0);

Many thanks!

Dear Susan,
 Thanks for your report. This should not happen with the version you have (13.4.4b). I guess the issue is that you have an old EEGLAB version in MATLAB's path. Due this you are pulling out that old version of pop_editset instead of the one from the 13.4.4b version. To fix this, clean out your path of old EEGLAB versions and you will be ok.

I am a very infrequent user of Matlab and EEGLAB. The last time I tried to generate ERPs from single channel data (an in vitro slice recording is the source) was with Matlab 2011b and EEGLAB 13.1.x. It worked fine. Now, after upgrades, I am getting this error when I try to open EEGLAB and import my data.

>>EEGLAB error in function pop_editset() at line 443

>>Undefined function or variable "res".

Thanks for your help!!
