The French CNRS National institution is offering about 400 full time
tenure track research positions in all areas of research including
cognitive and computational neuroscience. The deadline for applying is
the 7th of January.

The CNRS has been ranked 1st research institution worldwide according
to a recent ranking from SCImago (http://www.scimagojr.com).
There is no nationality requirement and no requirement to speak French
to apply to the CNRS. CNRS researchers are independent researchers
that define their own line of research and may supervise many PhD and
post-doctoral fellows (although 100% of CNRS researchers' salary is
covered by the French government, external funding must be secured to
pay salaries for PhD and post-doctoral fellows).
Applicants are evaluated by national instances composed of senior
researchers. These instances hire researchers for all top research
department/laboratories in France. The main criteria for selection is
excellency. One usually needs to contact a productive hosting
department/laboratory before applying (although this is not required,
chances of being hired without support from a department/laboratory
are slim). All applicants will be invited for interview in Paris in
March 2009 (there is no selection before the interview).
As with all French administrative positions, CNRS researchers are
hired for life (there is a 1-year trial period that nobody has ever
failed at). Net salaries range from 2 000 euros (starting) to 4 500
euros per months and can be increased by up to 1 500 per month based
on excellency and/or by 250 euros per month for committing to teach 60
hours a year (there is no teaching requirements for CNRS researchers).
