Postdoctoral position at the Institute of Psychology of the University
of Leipzig, Germany
EEG lab of Prof Dr Matthias M. Mueller

The Institute of Psychology at the University of Leipzig is seeking to
appoint a full-time Research Associate to work on a DFG-funded project
investigating the neural basis of visual object representation awarded
to Prof Matthias M. Mϋller (University of Leipzig) in collaboration with
Dr Jasna Martinovic (University of Aberdeen). The employment will be
initially awarded for three years with the possibility of extension,
with the salary in the postdoctoral range that is typical for positions
of that level in Germany. The actual salary will be commensurate with
the applicant’s qualifications and previous work experience.

The appointee should be able to conduct independent research into visual
object representation using EEG and behavioural methods. The University
of Leipzig has its own 128-channel EEG laboratory and a fine record in
investigating brain responses related to visual attention and object
representation. The lab focuses on the study of temporal dynamics of
integrative brain activity which are explored with a range of EEG
responses such as the event-related potentials, steady-state evoked
potentials and event-related high-frequency oscillatory activity.

Candidates should have a background in Psychology, Biology or
Neuroscience and hold a PhD or be close to completion of a PhD. Previous
neuroimaging experience is preferred – in particular EEG or MEG.
Familiarity with the use of Matlab for data analysis and experimental
design would be advantageous, as would be previous experience in vision
science. Furthermore, excellent writing and presentation skills in
English would be required. If the candidate would show interest in doing
a habilitation at the Institute, a limited amount of teaching would also
be made available.

Applications with a letter of interest, CV, publication list and details
of two referees should be sent to Prof M.M.Mϋller at
m.mueller at rz.uni-leipzig.de. Informal enquiries can be made to either
Prof M.M.Mueller or to Dr Jasna Martinovic (email: jasnam at liv.ac.uk).
The deadline for applications is 5th of June 2010.
