in the field of cochlear implant research and auditory EEG/EABR. (1-3 years)

Applications are invited for the position of a Research Associate (Postdoc) and of a Research Assistant (optional possibility of working towards a PhD) in the Medical Physics group (headed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Birger Kollmeier and Prof. Dr. Volker Hohmann), Department of Physics, University of Oldenburg in a project locally coordinated by Dr. Mathias Dietz.

Hearing research is the figurehead of the University of Oldenburg. In June 2012 "Hearing4all" (Oldenburg/Hannover, see www.hearing4all.de) became a "cluster of excellence" and will receive funding of up to 34M Euro until 2017. Principal researchers include Professors B. Kollmeier (chair), V. Hohmann, S. van de Par, S. Doclo, C. Thiel, C. Köppl, G. Klump, C. Herrmann, and S. Debener. A close collaboration exists with hearing research groups in Hannover (T. Lenarz (deputy chair), A. Kral, A. Büchner et al.)

Both positions are funded by the EU (FP7) and are available immediately. The project is a collaboration of four partners: UCL Ear Institute (London, UK), Neurelec (Antibes, France), HörTech (Oldenburg, Germany) and the University of Oldenburg. It aims at improving binaural aspects of CI technology (spatial pre-processing, simulation, binaural stimulation, and binaural EABR). 

The holder of position (A) will be involved in the planning, setting up, running and analysis of EEG (EABR) and psychoacoustic experiments with both normal hearing and CI subjects and in the development of algorithms to aid spatial hearing of CI subjects. 

The holder of position (B) is expected to contribute to these topics with a PhD project (or equivalent).  

Applicants for position (A) should hold a PhD and have experience in auditory EEG and ideally also in electric hearing. Applicants for position (B) should hold or a Diplom or Master's degree in science or engineering and have knowledge of auditory EEG, electric hearing, or in the development of audio algorithms. German language skills are beneficial but not required.
