I would like to inform the list members of the following opportunity:

Postdoctoral Fellow:

The Hoglund Brain Imaging Center (HBIC) is seeking an experienced and
qualified individual to serve as a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF). Primary
duties will involve the analysis of event related potentials (ERPs)
recorded from 4.5 and 5.5 year old children during a GO/No-Go task. The
area of focus will be on complex secondary analysis of EEG, ERP and
visual evoked potentials related to the task using BESA, EEGLab and
MatLab. The individual may be responsible for developing and
implementing computational techniques for brain and/or cardiac signal
processing. He/she will participate in data management and analysis on
multidisciplinary collaborations with HBIC members and other
investigators, and contribute to the dissemination of study findings.

HBIC is an integrated imaging center with MEG, EEG, 3T functional MRI
and 9.4T animal imaging capacity. The University of Kansas provides a
vibrant clinical and basic research environment and Kansas City offers
low-cost, sophisticated, urban living in a rapidly growing city of over
2 million. HBIC brings together scientists from diverse disciplines such
as Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology, Physiology, Psychiatry,
Psychology, Physics, Engineering, Computing, Biochemistry, and Anatomy
together in a highly collaborative and integrative environment to
exploit new technologies for the study of the central nervous system.
Specific research areas include but are not limited to speech, language,
and hearing, motor control, brain injury, and signal processing as well
as longitudinal investigations of fetal movements, heart rate and heart
rate variability which allow investigators to better understand fetal
neurobehavioral development and autonomic nervous system control of the
heart.

This position will be integrated with ongoing studies in the Maternal
and Child Nutrition and Development Laboratory. These studies focus on
the effects of nutritional supplements taken during pregnancy or
delivered in infant formula. Investigations are focused on the effect of
long-chain fatty acids (primarily docosahexaenoic acid – DHA) on
fetal/infant/child growth and development, including cognitive and
visual acuity development as well as ERPs at later ages. This is a
collaborative effort that involves Susan E. Carlson (Dietetics and
Nutrition), John Colombo (Cognitive Development Laboratory) and Kathleen
M. Gustafson (Vision Science and ERP Laboratory).

Interested individuals should find more details about this position and
apply through the University of Kansas Medical Human Resources website

About Kansas City
The Kansas City Metropolitan area is a center for business, art and
lifestyle. The city has one of the most affordable housing markets in
the Midwest and enjoys low crime rates compared to other cities in its
category. Greater Kansas City is headquarters to some of the Fortune 500
companies, including Sprint-Nextel Corp, H&R block, AMC and several
others such as Hallmark Cards.
Kansas City offers a wealth of attractions. The striking landscape
includes wide boulevards, beautiful parks, fantastic architecture and a
lot of fountains. With more working fountains than any other city in the
US, Kansas City is sometimes informally referred to as the “City of
Fountains”. Kansas City is your one-stop for great food, shopping,
music, entertainment and performing arts. Whether is it the fine dining
and local cuisine that boast of the famous “Kansas City strip”, or
historical attractions such as the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum,
American Jazz Museum or nationally-acclaimed art galleries like the
Nelson-Atkinson Museum of Fine Art, or the shopping and dining
experience at the Country Club Plaza, Kansas City has it all. Kansas
City is also home to major sporting events and concerts. The city is
home to the Kansas City Chiefs (National Football League) and the Kansas
City Royals (Major League Baseball)
