[Eeglablist] re-reference with EGI data

For re-referencing and similar operations, you might also try adding ERPLAB Toolbox to EEGLAB. ERPLAB has a "channel operations" function that allows very powerful and flexible re-referencing. Most importantly, it is extremely easy to see exactly what you're doing in the re-referencing process.
