Dear Jason,

experiment, but with two different events, do we need to have 2 datasets
which are derived from the main dataset—first file has the first event,
while the second file has the second event.

Not necessarily. If you use STUDY later, it will extract epochs according
to coditions.

comparison process?

Sorry but I don't know what EEGLAB tutorial says.

I think the most streamlined way of comparing things, even for single
subject, is to create STUDY. EEGLAB's single subject analysis on
within-subject condition comparison is inconvenient (in my opinion).

attached (of EEGLAB tutorial), I'm not able to do the step of entering
"1" in the textbox next to position (*which will select all epochs in which
the target appeared in position 1-in the attached file 1* because I don’t
have the option “position” in my dialog box. What should I do?

Please ignore the old/wrong information. Maybe you want to report it to
EEGLAB bugzilla for future improvement
https://sccn.ucsd.edu/bugzilla/enter_bug.cgi

I believe the epoching process using EEGLAB is intuitive enough if you know
what epoching is. I know that there are three menu items that sounds
similar/related and maybe confusing, but the important steps are 1. epoch
everything into homogeneous time structure 2. select epochs using event
names. Try several times and you'll learn it. Sorry that it may be rough
for the first time users.
