Yes, cool, it's very important to review the documentation and really
work with the tutorial data first.
Then when you have a good handle of that data, it's a good time to try
to work with your own data.

Here are some extra examples you can look at, some of which are part
of the manual.
In case you haven't had a chance to, it's important to review the
whole online eeglab manual,
because you can find chapters that you will want "look at" in the
future when dealing with other functions and eeglab tools.

Look at the output definitions of newtimef to understand the structure
of the output
https://sccn.ucsd.edu/svn/software/eeglab/functions/timefreqfunc/newtimef.m
Look under "outputs" in the documentation at the beginning of the code.
You can also type help "name of function" or doc "name of function"
in matlab to get any available documentation on functions.

Review this part of the online wiki if you have not had a chance to yet.
https://sccn.ucsd.edu/wiki/Chapter_11:_Time/Frequency_decomposition

See example eeglablist postings you can google search, such as the following:
[Eeglablist] newtimef settings and output
https://sccn.ucsd.edu/pipermail/eeglablist/2011/003738.html

If you're not too familiar with matlab and general data structures,
the matlab tutorials and also
the eeglab tutorial on data structures and on command line scripting
should be of use to you.
Sorry if I mentioned this already in last recommendations :)
