Hello Jay, in ICA/Eeglab dipole-modeling, the time series of neural
independent components (after running ICA in eeglab) are usually considered
to index the estimated time signal of their source dipole (s). IC time
series are accessed from the ICA activations in the EEG structure of
eeglab/matlab.

If you haven't had a chance to, please see the eeglab tutorials on
generating and reading IC activations, as well as regarding how to access
eeglab data structures in matlab.

Put simply, the IC-dipole(s) are thought to generate the IC-specific
topographies seen at the scalp. To get more background about the reasoning
for this, one can look in eeglab tutorial, and search on google scholar for
review articles about EEG/ICA.

One good resource are reviews, papers, and presentations from Scott Makeig,
many of which are available on the SCCN paper archive. Much more also in
the eeglab tutorial and eeglab summer school videos/presentations.
For other kinds of source analyses see eeglab tools from Ojeda, as well as
other EEG software like Fieldtrip, Brainstorm, and MNE Python.

Example of a good review chapter with some relevant background (search
google scholar or eeglablist for other references)
