The Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environments and Human Factors has opened a
PhD position in Cognitive Neuro-ergonomics / Applied Experimental Psychology. The project will primarily deal with EEG based indicators of user states in diverse work-related contexts. One of the core techniques will be the application of mobile EEG during natural movement.
The official announcement:
‘Forschungsgesellschaft für Arbeitsphysiologie und Arbeitsschutz e.V. Dortmund’ (legal entity name) is a research institution institutionally funded by the German Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is the sponsor of ’Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors at TU Dortmund’ (IfADo). IfADo explores the risks and potentials of modern work in interdisciplinary approaches. We combine the disciplines of Ergonomics, Immunology, Toxicology, Psychology and Neurosciences.
For reinforcement of the Department of Ergonomics we are seeking to hire a PhD student in
Cognitive Neuro-ergonomics / Applied Experimental Psychology
The position is available from now on and is limited to a period of 3 years.
The prerequisites for employment are a degree in psychology, ergonomics, cognitive science or biology and very good knowledge in at least one of these fields. Excellent methodological skills, as well as experience in the presentation and publication of scientific results are required.
The successful applicant will plan and conduct neuroscientific studies in the field of applied experimental psychology. The research will comprise a variety of neuro-ergonomic topics like the distribution of cognitive resources, task engagement versus disengagement, mental fatigue, and mind wandering. The methodological focus will be placed on EEG research, ranging from laboratory experiments to mobile EEG studies in more natural settings. The tasks will also comprise data analysis and the preparation of manuscripts for publication in international peer reviewed journals.
The applicant should have a completed degree in psychology, cognitive science, or equivalent. Further requirements are interest in working at the intersection of basic and applied neuroscientific research, good English language skills, the ability for teamwork, openness for working with participants as well as excellent methodological foundations. Desired abilities are experience in the presentation and publication of scientific results, programming skills and knowledge about the collection and analysis of EEG data.
IfADo is an interdisciplinary institute in the field of labor and occupational research. Basically, the institute has all the methods of cognitive neuroscience at its disposal, as well as a high level of competence ranging from cell biology to occupational medicine. The research work is thus integrated into an interdisciplinary concept. Special attention is paid to the utilization of findings from basic research for real applications in the working environment.
