Center for Mind & Brain <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://mindbrain.ucdavis.edu/__;!!Mih3wA!XdJeZ-n9K1pOd70Vq858WVlJqDud3CiCi0e2SojySZKdxscvUyDx09U2xdCAchZO8p5ICw$ > invites
applications for two postdoc positions on a multi-year, translational
project bridging auditory cognitive neuroscience and hearing loss. The
research addresses speech perception in dynamic, cluttered scenes using
a novel EEG-based approach that characterizes listening across multiple
auditory, linguistic, and cognitive levels of processing. By studying a
large, age-diverse cohort of Veterans in the lab and the clinic, the
research has great potential to inform both the basic neuroscience and
the practical treatment of common noise- and age-related hearing
dysfunctions.
Necessary background and skills include:
* substantial EEG experience
* strong programming skills in Matlab (e.g. EEGLAB, Fieldtrip)
* general aptitude with time series analyses
* good quantitative skills including statistics
* strong scientific writing, and a record of first-authored publications
* enthusiasm and ability to work closely on an interdisciplinary team
Desirable skills include:
* an understanding of speech perception and attention in a
quasi-naturalistic setting
* experience with pupillometry
* experience with machine learning / classification
* some familiarity with clinical audiology
The UC Davis Center for Mind & Brain is a premier research institute
with a lively and supportive community of appx. 200 students, staff, and
faculty. It provides outstanding opportunities for training and
collaboration among world experts in language, attention, and EEG methods.
Salary is consonant with postdoctoral experience and substantially
exceeds the NIH scale, as per UC Davis policy.
Position will remain open until filled, but to ensure consideration
please apply by DECEMBER 20, 2020. Application materials should include
a brief cover letter, CV, and contact details for at least two referees.
These should be sent as a single PDF file to Prof. Lee M. Miller at
millerlab51 at gmail.com.
