Northwestern University isaccepting applications from postdoctoral trainees working inan area relevant to rehabilitation medicine to be supported by its T32 training program in Pathophysiologyand Rehabilitation of Neural Dysfunction (PRND). The position will be open inthe summer of 2021. All applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Program Summary: The Pathophysiology and Rehabilitation of Neural Dysfunction (PRND) training program is directed byDr. Eric Perreault, PhD, and co-directed by Drs. Lee Miller, PhD and ElliotRoth, MD. Trainees are mentored by 26 highly collaborative scientists workingin areas from cellular neurophysiology, to engineering, to clinical medicine;all conduct research with an emphasis on rehabilitation of neural dysfunction.The specific objectives of our program are to train rehabilitation scientistswho understand the broad spectrum of problems confronting people withneurologic disabilities and who possess the clinical, scientific andquantitative skills to alleviate the burden on this growing population. Overthe life of the PRND program, 47 predoctoral fellows, 35 postdoctoral fellows,and 16 summer interns have been supported financially. Many of these traineesare now established leaders in the field of rehabilitation medicine.
One of theinvestigators is Dr. Daniel Corcos whose labinvestigates the mechanisms of action of deep brain stimulation of thesubthalamic nucleus in the context of movement and cognition in people withParkinson’s disease. We use a combination of invasive subthalamic nucleusrecordings, noninvasive high density EEG, MR and CT imaging, and behavioraltasks using eye and limb movements. Requirements include: 1) an interest in thetherapeutic mechanisms of deep brain stimulation across motor and cognitivenetworks, 2) A PhD in Neuroscience, Engineering, Physics, or Data Science, or arelated field, 3) Proficiency in Matlab and/or Python, 4) Experience withelectrophysiological signal analysis (EEG and LFPs) with a strong quantitativeand theoretical skill set, and 5) excellent writing skills. Experience instructural and functional MR imaging is not required but preferred.
