Hosted by: The Department of Exercise, Sport & Lifestyle Medicine of Stellenbosch University, Division of Movement Science and Exercise Therapy, South Africa in collaboration with The Movement Lab (Stellenbosch University) and the International Motor Behaviour Society (IMBS)
Overview
In recognition of World Parkinson’s Day (11 April 2026), we are proud to announce the 2026 Movement Disorders Symposium. While grounded in our commitment to Parkinson’s Disease awareness, this year we are expanding our scope to a broader movement disorders awareness.
We invite persons living with movement disorders, researchers, clinicians, movement specialists, caregivers and students to convene in Stellenbosch to share the latest evidence, therapeutic strategies, and research regarding the management of movement disorders (including Parkinson’s, Stroke, Dystonia, Ataxia, and others).
Call for Contributions
We are currently accepting abstracts for Oral Presentations and Poster Sessions. We welcome submissions that explore:
* Clinical management and rehabilitation of movement disorders.
* The role of exercise and lifestyle medicine in movement disorders.
* Technological innovations in gait and balance assessment.
* Case studies and multidisciplinary care models.
Key Dates
* Abstract submission deadline: 28 February 2026
* Notification of acceptance: 10 March 2026
* Registration deadline: 20 March 2026
* Symposium date: 11 April 2026
Submission Guidelines
* Format: Please specify if you are applying for an Oral Presentation or a Poster.
* Word count: Abstracts should not exceed 250 words (excluding title and authors).
* Structure: Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusion.
* How to submit: Please email your abstract as a PDF to nsnegireva at sun.ac.za<mailto:nsnegireva at sun.ac.za> with the subject line "Abstract Submission – Movement Disorders Symposium".
