[Eeglablist] Optimizing an EEG setup for supine recording

Hi everyone,

I am currently piloting a project with subjects lying supine with a 64
channels setup. I find that supine recording brings several challenges with
it, as using a normal cap and electrode set (Brain Products' actichamp
amplifier + actiCap) seems to not be ideal for this case:
1. First, it is quite hard to maintain a good connection between some
electrodes and the scalp, with the central electrodes often hovering, and
disconnecting once in a while. Using chest straps helps but does not solve
this fully.
2. Lying directly on the electrodes is painful for most subjects. Sometimes
smart positioning helps, but this is not reliable.
3. The pressure on the electrodes causes a relatively small but constant
noise in the electrodes pressed, which is unfortunate, as this is a visual
experiment and I care about the occipital channels the most.

I would be very grateful if those of you collecting supine EEG could share
from your experience some ways to deal with these issues. If you have
any additional tips or ideas, they would of course be appreciated as well.

Thank you!
Rotem
