POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP - MOPGA 2027 - AMIENS, FRANCE
Lean in or turn away? Bodily responses to climate-impacted landscapes and pro-environmental action

The Laboratoire de Neurosciences Fonctionnelles et Pathologies (LNFP, UR UPJV 4559, University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens, France) is looking for an early-career researcher with strong EEG skills to apply with us to the Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) 2027 programme run by Campus France: a 12-month visiting fellowship in France (EUR 2,500 per month, settling-in allowance and health coverage), starting between September and December 2027.

The project. Most people agree that climate change is a threat, yet this concern translates poorly into action. Climate change is now visible in everyday landscapes (scorched fields, dying forests, eroding coasts, flooded valleys), but we do not know whether the body's response to these sights pushes people towards action or away from it. Our team has shown that posturography captures approach and avoidance tendencies towards environmental scenes, and that these responses can be recorded together with EEG. The fellow will lead a study in which participants stand on a force platform while viewing climate-impacted and intact landscapes, with simultaneous 64-channel EEG (late positive potential, frontal alpha asymmetry, time-frequency analyses), electrodermal activity and eye-tracking, and then perform a behavioural task in which voluntary effort generates real donations to an environmental organisation. An online companion study will be run in France and in the fellow's home country.

Eligibility (MOPGA rules)
- non-French nationality;
- PhD defended between December 2021 and December 2026;
- not residing and working in France at the time of application;
- never previously awarded a MOPGA fellowship.

Profile
- PhD in cognitive or affective neuroscience, psychophysiology, environmental psychology or a related field;
- hands-on EEG experience is essential (preprocessing and artefact correction, ICA, ERPs, time-frequency analysis); experience with autonomic or motor measures is a plus;
- a genuine interest in environmental or climate issues;
- programming skills (MATLAB/EEGLAB, Python or R); good written and spoken English (French is not required);
- ideally, a home team willing to run the online companion study in your country.

1. a CV including your list of publications (4 pages maximum);
2. your PhD certificate, or the planned date of your defence;
3. a one-page letter explaining how your expertise relates to the project;
4. the names and contact details of two or three referees;
5. a short statement confirming each of the four eligibility criteria above.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by video during the week of 3 November. The selected candidate will then prepare the application with us and submit it on the Campus France platform before 15 December 2026.
