Dear EEGLAB community,

Thank you to those who responded to my earlier post about the Psychiatric
State Index (PSI). I am writing to provide an update on the PSI perspective
article, which proposes a dual-index wearable EEG framework for real-time
differentiation of autistic meltdowns from psychotic episodes.

Since the initial dissemination, the manuscript has received peer feedback
from a neurologist/epileptologist, interest from researchers at UCLA, and
has been accepted for submission to Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience
under the Research Topic "Integrating AI and Computational Neuroscience for
Mental Health."

Key revisions based on expert feedback:

1. Gamma-Band Artifact Mitigation. A principal concern was the reliability
of scalp EEG gamma-band measurement during hypermotor states. The revised
manuscript now explicitly addresses this, citing Muthukumaraswamy (2013,
Frontiers in Human Neuroscience) and Nottage et al. (2013, Brain
Topography). The PSI framework incorporates multiple EEG features beyond
raw gamma power, including spectral ratios, coherence, and event-related
markers.

2. Strengthened Peer-Reviewed Evidence Base. Non-peer-reviewed references
have been replaced with recent peer-reviewed sources:
- Kaur et al. (2024), Psychiatry Research: Resting-state gamma alterations
in adult ASD
- Sun et al. (2023), Translational Psychiatry (Nature): Meta-analysis of
resting-state EEG power in ASD
- Foss-Feig et al. (2021), Frontiers in Psychiatry: P300 predicting
psychosis conversion in ASD
- Lacerda et al. (2026), European Psychiatry: ASD and emerging psychotic
symptoms overlap

3. Clinical Positioning Clarified. The PSI is positioned as a
decision-support tool for settings without immediate psychiatric expertise,
not as a replacement for clinical judgment.

I welcome feedback, collaboration offers, or suggestions for relevant
researchers. The revised article is available upon request.

Best regards,
Netanel Stern
