Two post-doc positions are available at the new Cognition departments of
the Max Planck Institute for Neurological Research in Cologne:
Announcement 1
A postdoctoral position is available at the Max-Planck-Institute for
Neurological Research with Klaus-Joachim-Zülch-Laboratories of the Max
Planck Society and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne.
The position involves research in statistical neuroimaging analysis, in
particular with respect to the relationship of structure and function of
the human brain. Currently, the following tomographic facilities are
available at the institute: human brain PET (HRRT, ECAT II) and MR Systems
(3T) as well as EEG facilities; animal (µ-) PET, and animal MRI (4.7T,
7.0T, 11.7T). The position requires a Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as
neuroscience, biology, engineering, physics, or statistics. Experience
with neuroimaging analysis platforms is desirable, as well as mathematical
and scripting skills (especially Matlab). Furthermore, familiarity with
Bayesian approaches and computational modelling
(neuronal networks, connectivity analysis) is advantageous.
The position will be offered initially for 3 (optionally 5) years. Salary
is based on the qualification of the candidate. The Max-Planck-Society
aims at increasing the percentage of women in research positions and
strongly encourages women scientists to apply. The Max-Planck-Society is
an equal opportunity employer and particularly welcomes applications from
persons with disabilities.
Please submit your application by Oct. 20. Applications including a
detailed CV, names of two references, and a brief statement of research
interests should be e-mailed to Marc Tittgemeyer
(marc.tittgemeyer at nf.mpg.de) or Markus Ullsperger
(markus.ullsperger at nf.mpg.de) or directed to

Announcement 2
At the Max Planck Institute for Neurological Research with Klaus
Joachim Zülch Laboratories of the Max Planck Society and the Faculty of
Medicine of the University of Cologne, a full-time postdoctoral
position on neural bases of performance monitoring and flexible,
goal-directed behavior is available from January 2007 for a period of 3
(optionally 5) years in the Cognitive Neurology group headed by Dr. Markus
Ullsperger. Research focuses on human cognitive processing in the domains
of performance monitoring, decision making, and flexible adjustments in
goal-directed behavior. A variety of methods are used including
neuroimaging (fMRI, PET) and EEG recordings in healthy humans and
neurological patients. The specific projects will build on previous work
and shall address pharmacological and genetic influences on
cognitive processes. As the focus lies on dynamic brain processes,
simultaneous multimodal recordings will be a major approach. Experience in
cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging, particularly PET and/or
neuropsychopharmacology, and familiarity with neuroimaging analysis
platforms are desirable, as well as mathematical and scripting skills
(especially MATLAB). The position requires a PhD or MD in a relevant
field, such as neuroscience, medicine, cognitive science, cognitive
psychology or biology. The successful candidate will play a key role in
designing, conducting and analyzing experiments and will work as part of a
multi-disciplinary research team. For further information please contact

persons with disabilities. Please submit your application including a
detailed CV, publication list, names of two referees, and a brief
statement of research interests by Oct. 20, 2006, to: MPI for
