RE: Research Assistant / Associate Position at the
Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Hong
Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China.

The Applied Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Hong Kong, China, is recruiting a
candidate to fill a research assistant/associate position to support a clinical trial research titled “Can Chinese calligraphy
writing enhance cognitive performance and emotional calmness in older adults with mild cognitive impairment? An RCT study” Our laboratory emphasizes neural processes in various human higher cognitive functions, such as imagery, self-regulation,
cross-modal learning and memory strategies. It uses various neuroimaging techniques, such as EEG and NIRS, to investigate
underlying neural mechanisms in relation to behavioral performance. Being in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences department,
the research studies also focus on the clinical applications of the academic knowledge. Currently, we are launching a new 3-year project starting June 2012 to study the therapeutic effects of calligraphic therapy in
terms of physiological, cognitive and electrophysiological functions. We are looking for a candidate preferably with a Master degree
or above, who has a background in biological psychology or neuroscience to support the data collection and analysis phases of the
project. The successful candidate would be expected to administer a series of cognitive assessments and experiences using EEG
technology with participants who have potential mild cognitive impairment. Those with knowledge and experiences of related software,
such as NeuroScan, EEGLab, & MatLab, would have a priority. Good interpersonal skills would be necessary for interacting with
participants. The employment term would last for at least two years. Employment duration might be extended subject to the funding
availability. For those who plan to pursue an academic path in neuroscience and cognitive neuroscience, this would be a great opportunity
to gain related experiences and lead to an MPhil / PhD degree. For those who are interested, kindly please contact Dr Sam Chan at samcc.chan at inet.polyu.edu.hk with a CV, a cover letter and one or
two references. Dr. Sam C. C. ChanApplied Cognitive Neuroscience LaboratoryThe Department of Rehabilitation SciencesThe Hong Kong Polytechnic University *****
