Post Doc (3 years) Start: Dec 1, 2013
University of Birmingham, Psychology
Research Project: Effect of value learning on visual attention and working memory: EEG, eye movement analysis, and behaviour (ESRC, UK funded)
Applications are invited for a 3-year (limited term) full-time Post Doctoral Fellowship that will involve designing and conducting research to investigate the effects of reward (monetary and social) on basic aspects of visual cognition in healthy human adults; this exciting new project will also explore mechanisms of individual differences in reward learning. The project will use EEG, eye movement analysis, and behaviour as the main approaches; however, fMRI and TDCS/TACS are also available.
You will work in the Visual Experience Laboratory and will be supervised by Prof Jane Raymond, with Dr Steve Luck (UCD) and Prof. Stephen Wood as collaborators. You will be part of a dynamic, active research group involving three academic staff several other Post docs, PhD students, and frequent visiting scholars. We have a really great, very supportive lab group with a wide range of expertise (EEG, fMRI, combined EEG/fMRI, TMS, TCS, eye movements and psychophysics). Broader research topics in the Lab are visual cognition (perception, attention, memory), brain oscillations, emotional and motivation influences on cognition, and adulthood (from adolescence to ageing).
Birmingham provides a great living environment, being a dynamic city with lively entertainment, great food, lots of green spaces, and terrific transportation links.
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant area, be skilled and have demonstrable experience with EEG and be able use Matlab (or equivalent). You must also have publications in peer-reviewed journals and have made conference presentations at internationally recognised meetings. A background in visual attention, memory, learning, motivation or a related area is highly desirable. The start date is December 1, 2013.
If you are interested and wish to find out more, you are encouraged to contact Prof. J. Raymond (j.raymond at bham.ac.uk<mailto:j.raymond at bham.ac.uk><mailto:j.raymond at bham.ac.uk>).
Closing date: 10 October 2013
