Dear David,

Usually, EEG sampling rate is either 250, 256, 500, 512, 1000, 1024, and
any higher freqs than this is rarely used.

To make a rough estimate... If the task is with any visual presentation you
can use occipital visual potential as the reliable marker. I would set it
to 500 for starting and run ICA to find occipital alpha peak in the IC
spectrum, and if the peak is around 8-12 you are fine (I don't think you
can distinguish 500 from 512 or 1000 from 1024 in this 'method') if it is
4-6 or 16-24 then you want to half/double the sampling rate.
