Postdoctoral Fellowship positions

The Berenson-Allen Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School in Boston (MA, USA), is looking for highly motivated candidates interested in postdoctoral research in neurophysiology, neuroimaging and non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS). Candidates might apply for two different positions linked to two separate projects.

1.       The first project aims at identify biomarkers of neurological and psychiatric diseases by means of concurrent transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS) and Electroencephalography (EEG) recording. The project, led by Dr. Alvaro Pascual-Leone, Dr. Emiliano Santarnecchi and Dr. Moushin Shafi, includes the assessment of brain plasticity processes via Theta-Burst stimulation, simultaneous TMS-EEG and tACS-EEG acquisition, neuronavigation based on MRI/fMRI data and cognitive/personality assessment. The candidate will be primarily focusing on analyze EEG data collected before/during/after NIBS, therefore extensive prior experience with EEG preprocessing and analysis (e.g. EEG connectivity, source localization) is highly valued.



2.       The second project is focused on investigating the neurobiological underpinnings of high-order cognitive functioning in humans, with a link to cognitive enhancement interventions. The fellow will be involved in the analysis of EEG and/or MRI data (fMRI, ASL, DTI, structural) collected in the context of a longitudinal study aimed at increasing fluid intelligence and executive functions abilities in healthy controls. The project, led by Dr. Alvaro Pascual-Leone and Dr. Emiliano Santarnecchi, evaluates the impact of the combination of cognitive training and various forms of transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) in a large sample (>200 participants). The fellow will be focusing on (i) brain correlates of cognitive functions, (ii) mapping the neurophysiological changes leading to cognitive enhancement, and (iii) the definition of predictors of response to cognitive training and tES.
