Hello Deirdre, hoping all is well at the Olin center, some notes below,
best wishes.
You can find some past examples of spectral computation mini-scripts by
googling eeglablist+your topic.
Working with the cognionics data should be no problem. Just import the
files into eeglab using appropriate importer for their file type.
Then you can go ahead and compute various forms of spectral metrics within
eeglab. Use the GUI first, and then review output of eegh after successful
steps to build scripts (see also Scripting tutorial on eeglab site).
See also the help documentation on the spectral computation functions in
eeglab, which provides various flags for the functions to compute spectral
metrics in various ways.
Another option is to get the data into matlab and eeglab, clean it, and
then feed it to functions from the Chronux toolbox via scripts.
Should be pretty straighforward, as your data is simple, and the metrics
are routine.
If you haven't had a chance to review it, Mike X. Cohen's book on TF
analysis is also a great resource with sample matlab code which should help
you build metrics from scratch if you wish.
