Dear Colleagues,

Hopefully you can help us in spreading the word, we are looking for
motivated candidates for a PhD position in cognitive neuroscience (see
detail below). Would you be so kind as to inform potential candidates in
your network?

Thank you very much,
Andrea Desantis

*-------------------------------*

*PhD Position on Cognitive Neuroscience at the ONERA Salon-de-Provence &
LPC MarseilleWhere:* ONERA Salon-de-Provence & LPC Marseille
*Topic:* Confidence & Decision-Making
*Starting date:* October 2020
*Duration:* 3 years
*Application deadline:* 11/05/2020

A PhD position is available at the French Aerospace lab (ONERA) in
Salon-de-Provence and the Laboratoire Psychologie Cognitive (LPC) in
Marseille in France. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to
gain experience in both fundamental and applied research and to learn from
both academic and industrial research labs. She/he will be co-supervised by
Dr. Andrea Desantis (ONERA) and Dr. Thibault Gajdos (LPC), and will also be
led to collaborate with other researchers of the LPC (Dr. Karen Devranche)
and of the Institut de Neurosciences de la Timone (Dr. Manuel Vidal) in
Marseille.

The position is part of an ANR research project that aims at decoding human
spatial attention, confidence and agency using electroencephalography and
eye-tracking in combination with multivariate pattern classification
analysis. The PhD project will focus in particular on the study of
confidence.

Confidence is an essential aspect of decision-making and it is critical
during human–human and human-machine interactions. This PhD project will
aim at contributing to the scientific understanding of confidence and in
particular it will focus on the following questions: 1) On the basis of
what information does an individual determine whether s/he is confident or
not regarding a perceptual decision? 2) What information does s/he need to
determine whether s/he is confident of the judgment of her/his partner
during a cooperative task? 3) Can we decode and predict individuals’
confidence from brain activity?

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a Master’s degree in
cognitive science, neuroscience, cognitive psychology, physics or
engineering. Programming experience (Matlab, Python, R or other languages)
is strongly desirable and some experience with EEG or eye-tracking would be
a plus. A good level of English is essential and a good level of French is
strongly desirable.

*How to apply*
Please send your application (CV, letter of motivation, and the names and
email addresses of two persons who can provide recommendation letters) to
Dr. Andrea Desantis andrea.desantis at onera.fr before the 11th of May 2020.
