And also, I would like to advocate that the tools and community on Matlab is widely superior to the one on Python. The MEEG community primarily uses Matlab (90% of citations).
One has to pay for Matlab but we pay for Microsoft or Adobe licenses, because the free alternatives, even if they exist, does not fulfill our need. In addition Matlab tools also run on Octave (which is free), or in the case of EEGLAB, there is a compiled version that does not require Matlab.
