You may be interested to learn about using the HED system ('Hierarchical
Event Descriptors') to attach more detailed descriptions of your recorded
(or post hoc annotated) events to your data that can stay with the data for
its entire life, which may exceed your uses for it if you share it in an
open data archive such as the U.S. OpenNeuro.org and thence its
EEG/MEG/iEEG portal, NEMAR.org. EEGLAB has HED tools to search for classes
of events based on their HED tags, extract data epochs time locked to those
events, etc. HED tag annotations are explicitly accepted in all the BIDS
modality formats including BIDS-EEG. Learn more at HEDtags.org.
