The Institute of Psychology at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany,  is looking to fill a

PhD Position on the Analysis of Real-life Emotional Expressions (f/m/d)

This position should be filled by December 1st, 2023 and is a 65% position (currently 25,87 hours per week) with a time-limited contract of 3 years.
The salary will be according to pay grade 13 TV-L.

The Department Cognition, Emotion and Behavior, led by Prof. Dr. Anne Schacht, mainly focuses on the modulations of cognition by social context and individual aspects. The Department investigates a variety of domains, including perception, language, face cognition, learning, and judgment and decision making by combining established behavioral paradigms with a variety of measures, including electrophysiology, peripheral psychophysiology, and neuroendocrinology.

The PhD researcher will work within the framework of the DFG project on Gender Effects in Oligopolistic Markets: Leadership and Collusion; a joint research project with the economist apl. Prof. Holger Rau with the aim to analyse gender differences in leadership and collusive behavior through the lenses of industrial organization, behavioral economics, psychology, and neuroscience. The main task of the PhD student will be to investigate the role of (perceived) emotions in negotiations and leadership behavior. For this purpose, they will analyse emotional expressions (especially in face and voice) from real-life communications.

Ideal candidates should have a Master’s degree in Psychology, Biology, Cognitive Science, or a closely related field. We are looking for a passionate researcher with strong interest in Affective Sciences as well as excellent analytical and programming skills. Excellent spoken and written English is required; good command of German is recommended. We expect candidates to have very good communication skills and interest in multidisciplinary research.
