Dear all,

We have the following position available:

Postdoctoral Position in Cognitive Electrophysiology in Health and Disease at the Department of Psychiatry of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, U.S.A.

The Cognitive Electrophysiological Lab under the direction of Dr. Aysenil Belger in the Department of Psychiatry of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a full-time postdoctoral researcher to manage the lab and conduct human research studies of attention and emotion in neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., schizophrenia, autism) and healthy comparison populations, with both children and adults, using behavioral and electrophysiological (EEG/ERP) methods and techniques. Other activities include training of research lab assistants, writing papers for publication and planning new research. We also conduct functional neuroimaging (fMRI) studies both at the Duke-UNC Brain Imaging and Analysis Center and the UNC Research Imaging Center, which include state-of-the-art 3T and 4T research-dedicated scanners. The available position thus offers a unique opportunity to integrate electrophysiological and neuroimaging data collected from the same subjects to characterize in greater detail the spatio-temporal dynamics of higher brain and cognitive functions in health and disease.

Candidates must have (1) a completed Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, or other relevant field, (2) a strong background in cognitive electrophysiological research, and (3) a promising publication record. Previous experience of working with clinical populations is highly desirable but not required. The position is available for up to 3 years, along with possibility of extension or research faculty appointment and opportunities for individual grant application submissions. The position is available March 1, 2006. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Salary and rank commensurate with experience. Interested individuals should send a CV and names of three referees to: Aysenil Belger and Odin van der Stelt, Department of Psychiatry. 101 Manning Drive, Campus Box 7160. Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7160, or via e-mail to: ovdstelt at med.unc.edu.
