Call for contributions for a special Issue „Towards mobile EEG: out of
the lab and into the field“

We are happy to announce that there are still a few slots available in
our special issue on mobile EEG, edited by Maarten De Vos and Stefan
Debener in the International Journal of Psychophysiology. In case of
interest to participate, please contact the editors (email below)
directly with the proposed topic before 4th of Februari.

Topic: Until very recently, all established technologies for the
noninvasive study of human brain function have been confined to the
highly controlled laboratory environment. Wired EEG technology does not
tolerate substantial head, body or equipment motion as well.
Additionally, experiments aim to carefully control for all variables
unrelated to the variable of interest. The result is a highly artificial
recording condition, which poses heavy limitations on the validity of
the results for unconstrained, natural behavior. However, recent
advances in mobile technology have made it likely that some of these
limitations could be overcome in the near future. This holds great
promise for applied fields of psychophysiology, such as attention and
cognitive performance monitoring in working environments, social
neurosciences, and emotion research. Moreover, the flexibility offered
by the devices will also increase the applicability of EEG
investigations, for example in neurofeedback training programs or BCI
applications.

The contributions to this issue will focus on various aspects, aiming
to foster the application of mobile EEG and eye-tracking outside of the
lab. Contributions are welcomed on:

•	technological advances of mobile recordings,
•	applications that can profit from mobile recordings
