[Eeglablist] right 'nopoint' option for pop_select?

It seems my guess was correct then. :)
eeg_checkset is calling strmatch to locate 'boundary'
events and then the error pops up.

It is likely that some of your event types are not
strings of characters. You can check it by doing the
following:
non_str = find(~cellfun(@ischar, {EEG.event.type}));

non_str contains indices of your events that are of
non-character type. Please investigate event types whose
indices are listed in non_str. If these are all numerical you
can do the following:
for ii = 1:length(non_str)
    EEG.event(non_str(ii)).type = num2str(EEG.event(non_str(ii)).type);
end

However, if I remember correctly recent versions of EEGlab
force EEG.event.type to be of character type... What version
of EEGlab do you use?
