[Eeglablist] Eye artefact identification via ICA without EOG channels

Dear EEG experts,

I am going to record EEG using a 64 channel ActiCap. Additionally, I could use bipolar channels to keep track of (V/H)EOG. These would not have a common reference with the scalp electrodes. After running several pilot tests with and without EOG, the EOG channels do not seem to add substantially more information with regards to blink occurrences. Frontal scalp electrodes seem to identify these reliably as well.

As the ICA in my case is based on only scalp electrodes, would you regard it as o.k. practice recording the EEG without further EOG underpinning?

What are your experiences? I am happy to hear from you guys.

Best,
Clemens

P.S.: in case of double post, sorry, but I think my first request did not get through.
