Dear EEG Lab List,

The Royal's Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR), affiliated with the University of Ottawa, invites applications for the Director, Clinical Neuroelectrophysiology and Cognitive Research Laboratory (CNCRL) at the IMHR.

This leadership position offers the exciting opportunity to further develop a signature research program at the world-class facilities at the IMHR, and to provide leadership in building interdisciplinary partnerships across various research sectors, institutes, universities and other stakeholders.

The IMHR is seeking a researcher with a reputation for recognized excellence in research in the field of neuroelectrophysiology. The incumbent should normally hold a Ph.D. in psychology/neuroscience or a related field with an academic affiliation (Assistant Professor level or higher) and have an academic record of distinction (i.e. high impact publications and grant capture). He/she shall conduct electrophysiological research to investigate neuronal processes associated with abnormal mental states and cognition in psychiatric disorders, largely directed at delineating neural correlates of disease processes and defining objective neuroelectric biomarkers for diagnostic and prognostic use in mental illness, particularly in depression. The capacity to integrate electrophysiological data capture with the brain imaging platform will be considered an asset. The incumbent should be prepared to foster connections with appropriate local and national researchers and their teams to build high-profile, high-impact, internationally recognized research with outcomes that will translate into novel treatment for patients.

Ottawa, Canada's capital has been described as one of the most beautiful capitals in the world and one of the best places to live in Canada. Ottawa has the second highest quality of living of any city in the Americas, and 14th highest in the world according to the "Mercer Human Resource Consulting Quality of Living Survey". It is also considered the fourth cleanest city in the world by Forbes magazine. Ottawa is a bilingual, culturally rich city with a metropolitan population of about 1 million people, yet it still maintains the accessibility and atmosphere of a smaller city. Less than an hour's drive from the American border, Ottawa/Gatineau is centrally located with access to Montreal and Toronto.

The Director is expected to:
* Personally conduct hypothesis-driven and other forms of novel research and promote the same with other members of the CNCRL. Specifically he/she is expected to be a principal investigator on at least one ongoing (and preferably multiple) peer-reviewed research grant(s) from a national, provincial, or international granting council(s).
* Commensurate with maintaining a competitive position with granting agencies and a high citation index, publish his/her research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals. At least one of the articles (published or in press) should be as a senior author in a medium to high-impact (discipline-specific) journal annually.
* Provide leadership and guidance to all researchers within the Research Unit, through:
a)      Development and implementation of a strategic plan articulating research themes as well as             plans for sustained growth of the CNCRL;
b) Encouragement of researchers to apply for external peer-reviewed grants, investigator-initiated and/or industry-initiated contracts, congruent with the IMHR's strategic plan.
* Foster clinical research and facilitate translation of key research findings into clinical practice.
* Promote a harmonious work environment within the CNCRL.
* Oversee and manage the day-to-day activities of the CNDRL, including the purchasing and functioning of lab equipment, the implementation of laboratory procedures and analyses, the initiation and running of study protocols, and the preparation and submission of research grants to granting councils and research papers to peer-reviewed journals.
* Participate fully in institutional grant/project initiatives.

The following qualifications would be seen as favorable:

 * Experience with a broad range of electrophysiological approaches, including quantitative electroencephalography, and sensory and cognitive event-related potentials
 * Experience with multi-modal neuroimaging that combines electrophysiological measures with Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and/or Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
 * Strong record of translational research
 *   Depression and related comorbidities
 *   Bilingualism (English/French)

Minimum qualifications:

 * Ph.D. with an academic affiliation (Assistant Professor level or higher) and have an academic record of distinction (i.e. high impact publications and grant capture)
 * Strong background in conducting electrophysiological experiments
 * Minimum 3 years work experience in clinical and/or academic settings

This is a full-time position. The salary for this position is commensurate upon experience.

With a growing research institute currently comprised of over 30 active researchers and over 110 trainees, the IMHR continually strives to promote, support, integrate and disseminate basic and clinical research knowledge through collaboration efforts and networks. Examples of such efforts include the successful launch of The Royal's one-of-a-kind Depression Research Centre (DRC), the "twinning" of The Royal's DRC with the Michigan Depression Centre and the IMHR's leadership role in the development and launch of the Canadian Depression Research and Intervention Network (CDRIN).

Applicants are asked to submit a C.V. and a vision statement of their research and teaching/training interests, along with the names of three references to:
