Hello Alice, notes below, best wishes.

************************************************************

Within eeglab, epochs with artifacts need to be removed before ICA. One can
do via the steps explained in the eeglab tutorial (plotting the data, and
selecting periods with artifacts, and then rejecting those periods, then
running ICA). Thus those periods will be excluded from ICA.
In other words, the data that is fed to ICA needs to be free of artifacts
that ICA does not like (in other words, the periods can't be "just marked",
they need to be removed).

If you want to "just mark" periods with artifacts and then run ICA, you
would require an eeglab/matlab expert to develop a special solution for
you.

If you are a beginner with eeglab, the first best steps for you are to use
the eeglab tutorial data, do the eeglab tutorial steps, view eeglab summer
school videos, etc.. All these resources are googlabe. See also the ICA
classification online site from Luca (googlable too). Also, you may google
eeglablist and "your topic" for past posts related to various eeglab topics.
