I would like to apologize for the comment I posted to this forum a few days ago where I made a snarky remark about Dr. Thatcher’s position on ICA.
I realize that your algorithms are primarily based on ICA. I was inappropriately expressing my frustration with the frequent lectures by Dr. Thatcher about ICA. While I am aware of the studies he cites, I also believe that every mathematical tool has an appropriate place in our analysis space, and the fact that so many use this tool suggests that the matter is not closed. As a scientist, I would like to learn more about ICA and I have often felt bullied trying to ask questions about this within some clinical forums. The topic of ICA has been divisive in our EEG/neuro community, and my emotions have been heightened as I have been feeling the strain of living in a nation that is so incredibly divisive..
None the less, it was wrong of me to act on this frustration and call him out by name in a public forum.
I was made aware of the following two papers comparing LORETA (albeit z-score) to 1-channel neurofeedback.
Koberda, J. L., Moses, A., Koberda, P., & Koberda, L. (2012) Comparison of the effectiveness of z-score surface/LORETA 19-electrodes neurofeedback to standard 1-electrode neurofeedback. Proceedings of the 2012 International Society for Neurofeedback and Research (ISNR), Orlando, Florida, Journal of Neurotherapy: Investigations in Neuromodulation, Neurofeedback and Applied Neuroscience, 16:4, 295-315, DOI: 10.1080/10874208.2012.729984
Koberda J.L, Moses A, Koberda P, Koberda L. Comparison of the Effectiveness of Z-Score Surface/LORETA 19-Electrodes Neurofeedback to Standard 1-Electrode Neurofeedback. J. of Neurotherapy, 4, p-302, 2012.rigbaum, G., & Wigton, N. L. (2015). A Methodology of Analysis for Monitoring Treatment Progression with 19-Channel Z-Score Neurofeedback (19ZNF) in a Single-Subject Design.<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25777656__;!!Mih3wA!Wxp23-vD9bnw9Vaq6ekidF5PJixB2JaizGBvTnWDrtm0DPmzHGTKNj_CpDqQpxdQE7g-CA$ > Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback. 40(3), 139–149. doi: 10.1007/s10484-015-9274-0
My offer still stands to demo any of the tools that we use in clinical practice. I look forward to spending more time learning to use your toolkit as well.
Be safe and well.
