Colleagues - please share the following advertisement with your students and trainees. Apologies in advance for cross-posting.

Ph.D. Student Opportunity:
Funding is available for a Ph.D. research assistantship, under the direction of Dr. Chris Mizelle, starting in the fall of 2021 with the Department of Kinesiology at East Carolina University.

Degree Offered:
Ph.D. in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science – Biomechanics and Motor Control Concentration

Responsibilities:
Research assistants are expected to contribute 20 hour per week towards laboratory research.

Current Research:
Current research in the Sensory-Motor Integration Laboratory at ECU (SMILe) is focused on using neuroimaging (electroencephalography; EEG) and motion capture techniques to study sensorimotor integration and motor control. Specifically, laboratory research interests include examining the effects of age-related changes on cognitive motor control, the effects of sensory function and hand dominance in motor control, and neurobiological strategies for moving in 2-D and 3-D virtual environments.

Stipend:
Full Assistantship stipend is $25,000 for twelve months. Assistantships are competitive and dependent on the availability of state funds.

Qualifications:
M.S. in a relevant discipline is preferred, though B.S. applicants will also be considered. As the proposed work is multidisciplinary in nature, students from a variety of backgrounds are welcome to apply. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required.

Applications:
Priority review will be given to applications completed before February 1st. Applications will still be accepted after this date.

Please visit the following website to apply to the ECU Bioenergetics and Exercise Science Program:

About ECU and Greenville:
East Carolina University was founded in 1907 and is home to nearly 28,000 students. The University is one of the largest in the University of North Carolina system and is rapidly growing. It has been the fastest growing campus in the system for six consecutive years.

The Department of Kinesiology at East Carolina has over 100 graduate students. The National Academy of Kinesiology’s 2010 Review and Evaluation of Doctoral Programs ranked East Carolina’s Bioenergetics and Exercise Science Program in the top ten in the nation.

Greenville is located nearly halfway between Raleigh NC and the Atlantic coast.
The city of Greenville has a population of approximately 90,000 people. Greenville has a relatively mild climate (average summer temperature: 84o F; average winter temperature: 44o F) and experiences all four seasons. Greenville has a cost of living approximately 10% lower than the US average.
