Dear EEGLAB users,
A new EEGLAB version (v2019.1) is now available. Below we list some of the included enhancements:
* EEGLAB menus. We have reorganized and simplified the EEGLAB menus, in particular the Tools menu. There is still an option to use the previous menus by changing EEGLAB default preferences.
* The suggested EEGLAB standard processing approach is now to: 1) import the data, 2) filter and re-reference it, 3) apply artifact rejection (e.g., using the updated clean_rawdata plug-in), 4) decompose the data using ICA, 5) classify the resulting independent components as brain or (various) non-brain processes (by default using ICLabel).
* Default plug-ins. There are now four plug-ins installed with EEGLAB. Dipfit and firfilt - as in previous versions - and now clean_rawdata and ICLabel. Clean_rawdata is a powerful plug-in based on ASR (Artifact Subspace Reconstruction) that can automatically excise or attempt to correct non-brain artifacts. ICLabel is an automated independent component classifier based on machine learning (as brain or non-brain artifact: eye, muscle, etc. - see iclabel.ucsd.edu/tutorial<http://iclabel.ucsd.edu/tutorial> for details or to contribute to its continuing enhancement).
* We have also redesigned the STUDY-level plotting options to make them more user friendly. Also, they now allow plotting erpimage and ERSP/ITC in scalp channel arrays.
* There is a further ungraded plug-in manager that automates plug-in releases for improved stability, and includes a plug-in rating and feedback mechanism (note: the previous plug-in manager will continue to be maintained for backward compatibility).
* We have further improved compatibility with the LIMO toolbox.
* See more details about changes to EEGLAB in version 2019.1 here<https://sccn.ucsd.edu/wiki/EEGLAB_revision_history_version_2019>.
The new version of EEGLAB (Matlab version and compiled version) may be downloaded here<https://sccn.ucsd.edu/eeglab/download.php> (if you are upgrading, after installing, do not forget to reinstall your plugins or move your plugins from your old EEGLAB plugin folder to the new one).
The third issue of the EEGLAB News will be released in early January. The first two issues are available here<https://sccn.ucsd.edu/eeglab/EEGLAB_Newsletter.php>.
Workshops: The next EEGLAB workshop will be at UC San Diego (late May & early June, 2020). The full program, to be announced soon, will include an Introductory Matlab & EEG pre-workshop, and a first post-workshop Data Collaboratory. The EEGLAB workshops will be followed by the 2nd Hands-On LSL (LabStreamingLayer) workshop and the 4th International Mobile Brain/Body Imaging (MoBI) Conference, also to be announced soon.
Thank you for continuing to use and contribute to the EEGLAB signal processing environment,
Arnaud Delorme
