PostdoctoralPosition Announcement: Semantic Analysis and EEG in the study of Moral Actionand Virtue
 
The Travis Research Institute invites applicationsfor a Two-Year Postdoctoral Fellow to work on applying quantitative semanticanalysis, eyetracking, and EEG to decision making with a focus on moral actionand virtue. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team led byProfessor Steven Quartz (Caltech), Prof. Warren Brown (Fuller), Prof. KevinReimer (Fresno Pacific University), and Prof. Michael L. Spezio (ScrippsCollege and Caltech).
 
Research experience in quantitative semanticanalysis and eyetracking is highly beneficial but not required. Experience inindependent computer programming for data analysis is required, preferentiallyin Matlab and R. The successful candidate will be based primarily at Fuller butwill also work with the team at Caltech, and must be able to quickly learn andapply cutting-edge methods of quantitative semantic analysis (e.g., LSA, TOPICModeling), and EEG and eyetracking data analysis. Assistance with thecollection of neuroimaging data when necessary. Thereis also a requirement for travel within the United States to 2 to 3 datacollection meetings, each lasting about a week, for on-site EEG and behavioraldata collection with a rare special population of long-term care givers. Excellent interpersonal skills in working withparticipants is required, since the successful candidate will conduct in-depth,one-on-one, semi-structured interviews with participants. We are seeking anenthusiastic, reliable person capable of communicating effectively with therest of the team and of independent data collection and analysis on theproject. Familiarity with the neuroscience of moral action and virtue is not arequirement, but experience in decision research, moral psychology, and/orcontemplative studies is a plus. All requirements for the Ph.D. degree must becompleted by the date of hire.
