Description & Details
Rutgers University in Newark invites students to apply to the Behavioral
and Neural Sciences Graduate Program. Students in our program perform
independent research in humans, non-human primates, and animals,
culminating in a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. The program’s goal is to prepare
students for positions in academic, biomedical, and industrial research
settings. All students receive tuition and a generous stipend, regardless
of nationality. Outstanding candidates will be considered for the
prestigious Rutgers Presidential Fellowship.

exciting research, our students learn how the brain works, develops,
interacts with the environment, and is modified by experience in health and
disease.
PhD Student Opening is available within the Laboratory of Cognitive
Neuroimaging and Stimulation (CNS: https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.neurostimlab.com__;!!Mih3wA!CZanAJpnTCOqXOkqTg8SgZDdUSm8TYahxaHPzcBm2Ez0P8UYCsSZBu2p776pPD9QDXmYcW3oV5OTKyBBePSaGWnnuDfSZ4M-$ ) directed by Travis
E. Baker, PhD. The goal of the CNS Lab is to contribute to the
understanding of the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying reward and
decision-making functioning, how these systems may be affected by substance
use disorders (including trauma), and the effectiveness of targeted
non-invasive brain stimulation interventions (robotic transcranial magnetic
stimulation, robotic-TMS) for restoring optimal functioning and
performance. Using such advanced techniques as functional and structural
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), diffusion weighted imaging (DWI), human
electrophysiology (EEG and ERPs), computational modeling, and robotic-TMS,
we are currently developing new brain-based interventions aimed to correct
the aberrant reward processes that sustain substance use disorders, namely
the reward function of the anterior cingulate cortex. The lab currently
seeks graduate student with strong interest in addiction neuroscience,
neuroimaging, and brain stimulation to contribute to these studies. This
position offers an excellent opportunity to develop research expertise in
neuroimaging and neuromodulation. Dr. Baker’s laboratory houses an Adept
Viper s850 robotic arm used for robot-assisted image-guided repetitive
transcranial magnetic stimulation (Ri-rTMS), multiple systems for recording
EEG/ERPs, an eyetracking system, a virtual and augmented reality system,
and has the capabilities of recording and analyzing simultaneous EEG and
fMRI, and simultaneous EEG and Ri-rTMS.
